Opinions
shared by different speakers on Emerging Trends in 21st Century
Designing of Educational Research:
*We
need alternative, more effective research designs.
*We
have often followed enlightened trends of research in the US
and UK without really
understanding its exact nature.
*We
lack professionalism in all fields of Education, particularly in research.
* We
need to employ professionally validated methodologies.
* Translation of research outcome into practice seldom
happens in Kerala.
*Research
has to be an important component of professional development.
* Blind
adoption of practices, and slipshod
implementation of practices sharpened through research should be avoided.
* The
managerial approach to education now
popular in the West is yet to find
popularity in Kerala.
* We
require area specific, institution specific
research.
* Internationally accepted Quality should
find reflection in the research
one undertakes.
*The guiding principle of a research
design should be to provide maximum
amount of information relevant at a
minimum cost.
*The
Participatory Research-Rapid Rural Appraisal popularized by Prof. Robert Chambers
is a model to emulate.
*Unfortunately the focus now is on Quantitative Research. The time has come for a shift ... to Qualitative
Research.
*
The current research interest in the West – Drawing on
animal behaviour and cognition
and comparing it with human behaviour and cognition, is yet to
draw a wide interest among
Indian researchers.
